I recognize that there are a lot of other threads that are discussing similar things, but none of them seem to capture my use case.
Currently, I have a MobileMe ID, kdbertel at me.com. I use this to log in to MobileMe, and I also use it to purchase apps from the iTunes store. (I got the MobileMe account prior to getting an iPhone, and I didn't realize that there was a difference between a MobileMe account and an iTMS account).
I have an iPhone 3GS, my wife has an iPhone 3G; we each have separate (Windows) computers; I have an iPad that she occasionally uses, but is essentially mine. The iPhones, iPad, and instances of iTunes are all authenticated with my MobileMe ID account; it is the account that both of us make app purchases with on our phones/iPad or through iTunes. It is the account that I bought Facetime for Mac with on our used-only-for-Facetime-now MacBook. We plan on upgrading our phones in the near future (the next month) to either 4 or 4S.
We currently use the MobileMe account to also share Contacts. (We take care of calendars with Google Calendar, and we still manage photos using Windows' tools)
With the advent of iCloud, I am worried even more about our data tramping on each other.
What I want the end result to be:
1. We both make purchases on the same account, or effectively so. We don't want to double-pay for apps. If she buys a game, I want to be able to get it without also buying it, and vice-versa. I assume this also applies to in-app purchasing; if she gets the ad-free upgrade to an app, I'd like for it also to apply to my device (even if I have to click a button on it).
2. Our app data is kept separate. If I have a save file in a game in iCloud, I don't want her to also access that save file, and vice-versa.
3. Our Gamecenter accounts are separate; I don't want her achievements on my account.
4. Our Contacts stay in sync between all the devices. We have enough trouble keeping up with one contact list, to break it off into having to keep it up on multiple devices would be overwhelming.
5. I want my iPhone and iPad to keep iMessage in sync. The iMessage information from her phone should be separate.
6. Each of the devices needs a completely separate ID to access Facetime.
7. It would be nice if Find My iPhone would find all the devices shared between us, but Find My Friends should be a reasonable substitute.
In short, share app purchases and contacts, but keep everything else separate.
Is this possible?
Can someone please provide (or link to) clear, step-by-step instructions of how to get from point A to point B?
And, on a sidenote, is there a way to change my Apple Store ID to something other than my MobileMe account? Or am I pretty much stuck with that until the end of time?
Thanks in advance.
