Hi there everyone,

A while ago I installed smcFanControl on my Macbook pro 2.4 Ghz and forgot about it. Everything was fine until very recently, when my fan was suddenly really really loud, and it was unusual because the only applications I had open was itunes and Safari and maybe pages. So I tried to control it with the fan control but it's not working. And I don't think there is anything running in the background because I checked the activity monitor.

Generally, the fan is at about 4500-5500 RPM on both the left and right fan. Its making me insane and I'm worried it can't be good for my mac.

At the moment's its 5100 and the current temp is 70.5.

Please, please help it's driving me mad :(

When in activity monitor is the dropdown box near the upper right hand corner set to My processes or All processes? Sounds to me like something is running in the background and you might not have it showing all processes running on the machine. Reply back here and let me know if you already did this. I'll try to help the best I can.

Ah, oops it was on My Processes. Right, I'm now looking at 'All Processes' but I don't really know what is what. I don't even know how to tell what is important and what is not  Currently the things that are open and relatively big (at least in 'real memory') are; Safari, Kernel_task, WindowServer and Finder.
Thank you so so much for helping me!
