This threads are turning more and more bizarre..., I haven't experienced this issue and I have a 2013 15" rMBP with a SandDisk SSD, I have copied lot of gigabits of information from a USB drive/Internet and the fans remained quite, my rMBPs fans ramp up very little for some minutes but I think not only the CPU generates heat inside but ALL components can do it and the machine needs to extract this heat in order to cool down everything inside. I think some people might be experiencing that their fans go crazy very often, but this is not my case and I think this issue is not generalised as some say.

Seriously mate out of the 29 pages of discussion on the Apple support forum (in just one thread alone, there are many others) discussing this issue do you really think that every single person who has run diagnostic tests and done research into the subject are really as thick (unintelligent) as you are making out.

THERE IS A PROVEN ISSUE with some late 2012 and many early 2013 15 rMBP's with SanDisk SSD's. So please, to all you APPL speculators, keep your noses out of threads which you judge to be detrimental to your stock portfolio. The folk who actually bought one of these substandard devices don't give a damn about the stock price, we care about getting a $3000+ laptop that actually sounds like a laptop rather than a Dyson.

First: I don't have Apple shares, second: I never said people finding issues on their devices are unintelligent, they have the right to complain to Apple when they think they received a defective product, but man the fans ever need to ramp up they were design to cool down those components, when you're charging the battery the fans might ramp up because batteries get hot, people think the only device that generates heat is the CPU alone, and maybe there is a reason for those fans to ramp up, we didn't design the rMBP so we can only expeculate about it.

The second paragraph I wrote wasn't aimed at you specifically otherwise I would have mentioned you by name. I brought it up because I had noticed a lot of people that like to jump into these types of threads defending Apple like they are some kind of saints and I find that astounding. So I speculate that they may have a lot more invested into APPL than just the devices they purchased. Either that or Apple seems to have brainwashed many of their customers into accepting whatever they are dealt.

Like I intimated before many people including myself have used diagnostic hardware and software to back up our theories, I can assure you that no component in my rMBP was even remotely warm during these fan speed anomalies and that includes the battery which was fully charged (and mains power was supplying power) many hours before the tests were run and were only a little warmer than room temperature.

This is a discussion board. You can't go to a discussion board and then tell one half of the discussion to get out.

Unless you just want to hear from people who agree with you - which kind of defeats the point of forums (note - I wouldn't have posted here if it wasn't for your paragraph above - so it's already had the opposite effect that you wanted).

And FTR, not that it's any of your business, but - yes, I own AAPL stock. No, I'm not brainwashed, but I do appreciate when people expect unrealistic things. Like the person who said the fan noise was impacting their workflow - which is just silly IMO.

So far the fan has only kicked up a handfull of times and it quiets down after a minute or two. Seems more f/w related than hardware. No patterns detected.

Update for anyone interested:

After the initial SMC it only spiked once, been good for past 3 days since.

:D

I'm just holding out for Apple to fix this (hopefully through a software update) since I have a Samsung screen on mine that is gorgeous and without issues and do not want to give it up!

Guess I didn't have to hold out for long. Latest SMC firmware update fixed the fan issue with my Sandisk SSD on the rMBP.

Pretty happy with Apple today :)

I had something like this recently too, I wasn't doing anything intensive...

I left my laptop for a few hours or maybe as little as an hour, I'm not 100% sure.
And when I came back the fans were at full bore, I tried restarting but it made no difference.

Eventually I turned-off my rMBP*, later when I powered up the fans were no longer screaming.

*mine is a mid-2012 model
