I had a macbook 2010 for a couple of years and the fan didn't start getting loud till a couple of years later but I recently purchase a macbook pro and the fan is noticeable compared to my white macbook which had a hidden fan noise.

If you're not already using it, iStat Pro will give you accurate readings of your temps and fan speeds, among other things.

If your fans are spinning up without increased heat, try resetting the SMC.

If there is increased heat, launch Activity Monitor and change "My Processes" at the top to "All Processes", then click on the CPU column heading once or twice, so the arrow points downward (highest values on top). Then look to see what may be consuming system resources.

chances are the new machine you bought is significantly faster if it has an i5 or i7 core processor which means more heat. I cant say if for sure thats your problem i just know the faster the machine it usually gets louder in fan noise.

I understand that too. I kind of believe that too.
