Just wanted to post my latest experience at the Apple Store for those experiencing similar issues with their MacBook Pro.
I have a 2012 Retina 15 inch MacBook Pro. About a month ago the right fan started making a sort of grinding/ticking noise. It still functioned fine, but it was rather annoying, especially in quiet areas. I had also noticed that the lid/screen was slightly misaligned with the rest of the laptop. This really wasn't a big deal, but I can't say it didn't bother me a bit.
So I took it to apple last night and they quickily realized that the fan would need replacing. I asked them if they could try to straighten out the screen while they were in there as well. About 45 minutes later I had my laptop back with a new and silent fan, as well as a perfectly aligned screen! Total bill for everything was $64.78 US.
