I saw some posts here where people's fan speeds were around 1500rpm on portal 2 for gaming. Well I was just playing Portal one almost everything at max and just when I was about to quit the fans jumped up to around 2000-2300 rpm. Is this normal? I would hope it is because the computer needs to cool down, I had a 3.06 27" and don't remember the fans speeding up.

Can we consolidate all these fan speed/overheating posts? I think MacRumors causes more worry than help on this issue.

you have an expensive computer go out and spend the 16 dollars to get iStatmenus far more then just fan controls. it does allow many fan control options. I have 6 settings of fan speeds for my mac pro and I have 4 four my imac. I know all the wise guys will say osx can manage your fans. or smcfanControl is free.

once you take the time to learn this program and use it you will be glad you spent the 16. i purchased the family version for 24

Sorry I just get paranoid, and want to make sure my computer is working properly. I'm sure it is, I just always like to double check

I have iStat, I need to check if it's the free or paid version. I reset my SMC and my idle fans seem to be normal as far as everyone else posts around here are concerned

Idle:

Optical Drive: 1037 RPM
Hard Drive: 1299 RPM
CPU: 999 RPM

After Left 4 Dead 2 1 hour (2560x1440, High, MSAA 4X, Anisotropic 8x):

Optical Drive: 2375 RPM
Hard Drive: 1929 RPM
CPU: 1899 RPM

Spend $120 on Applecare if you are that paranoid. $40 a year for protection seems pretty damn cheap to me.

Well, then I might suggest: http://www.experienceproject.com/groups/Am-A-Hypochondriac/19338

Actually, 7 of 10 posters on these forums could be charter members.

I really thing MR needs to add a section for just for those people.

another 2 of 10 forum posters are charter members in this group: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=452972

Quite seriously those are two of the biggest pet peeves I with these forums.

Cool story, then don't post if you have nothing useful to add.
