gt40x4 macrumors member Original poster May 22, 2010 #1 My friend has a macbook and when his gets above 150 (or there abouts) his fan turns on to a higher speed. now when my cpu gets hot like 150-160 the fan still stays at idle of the low setting and wont kick into high speed, any reason for that? thx

Hellhammer Moderator emeritus May 22, 2010 #2 150F is still normal temperature for todays CPUs when they are under load. When you start hitting 200F, you may have a problem. To manually change fan speeds, download SmcFanControl
