Snow Leopard. I think MacBookPlz's fans come on around the same time as well. If you have Windows through Boot Camp, I would see if the problem is in there too. If it is, could be the computer itself and not the OS or software.

I won't be installing Bootcamp until I can get my hands on a copy of Windows 7. Thinking of taking advantage of win741.com deal.

I have been letting the computer control it's own fans the past couple of times, it manages to keep itself in the low-to-mid 80s. I will probably resort to boosting the minimum fan speed during sessions to 4000RPM. Did that last week and it kept the computer between 65 and 80.

I would rather fool with the fans using SMCFanControl, than fool with the voltage of the CPU with Coolbook. At the end of the day, fans are a much less costly part to replace. ;D

Undervolting the CPU won't do any damage. So I'm not sure what part would need to be replaced. Running things so hot is likely to cause damage. Playing games or encoding videos my MBP maxes out at 65C. Also, by undervolting you get slightly longer battery life. Running the fans like you suggest takes away battery life and the fans produce heat themselves. Good luck.

I only play WoW on AC power... never on battery. You would hardly get anything in game done on battery power. haha.

I have read stories of mixed success with Coolbook, so I would just prefer not to try it. As for running the fans, my Unibody Macbook ran WoW in the low 70s with fans blasting, as set by Apple's own SMC control. As did my Black Macbook that I ran WoW on for two years under these conditions... The Blackbook is still alive and kicking, and functioning 100% properly. I will only use this system for 3 years max. Seeing as Apple Care will be in place for the entire time of operation, I am not worried about the fans dying.

Let me reiterate that my system is not continuously running at 100* C+, the fans merely do not rise in RPMs until that temperature is met.

Maybe you should roll a mage and cast ice block on your MBP. Apple's engineers haven't leveled high enough to control the temps on these systems. :)

Bahahaha. Did you check my Armory page (link in sig). I am proud to be a Druid! Used to run with a Warlock in BC-- but, that got old. Love tree healing now. :)

Yeah, now that i have seen that my fans ramp up after hitting the max temp-- I am starting to just think it is apples fault. I have always found it very odd that they have NO holes anywhere on the laptop for airflow-- aside from the vent which is covered mostly by a hinge. haha. Awesoooome.

Very clever and original... Thanks for the smart reply.

I am a full time student, work two jobs and still make time for WoW AND friends. As for the girlfriend bit, being gay has sorta always put a damper on my skirt-chasing abilities.

Good advice though.

Bravo!
