fans not working after update

ok so i have updated to el capitan. the fans do not work at all! the computer (macbook pro) is really hot to the touch and yet the fans are silent. this was not an issue before.
please help 🙁

quite strange that a software update messed up with SMC.

Not really. It's rarer now than it used to be, but it still happens sometimes.

I had a G3 that needed one every update, or reboot. Never found a way to fix it lol
