I agree with the article. The iPhone 4 has a big warning sticker on it right now. I had a guy at Hardees on launch day talking to me in line, with others listening in, about the problems with the new iPhone. How many people are really gonna buy this phone when it's got serious problems.

I was expecting this phone to get the rave reviews that it got the day before launch... only now everyone knows it's poorly designed and fragile. To make matters worse. Apple is just ignoring things or Jobs is being a smart ass and saying it's not an issue with the phone it's an issue with you, the user. ***** stupid.

negative and they have an ax 2 grind.

not likely going to take to iphone 4's and smack them together.

and if I did Im covered.

I got a square trade policy for 80 bucks.

I know I have personally been harsh on Apple at times but in fairness to them the end user is buying a phone with glass on both sides. If you drop it I mean that's your fault. if you are the type who drops things often maybe a phone with glass on both sides isn't for you?

I understand where you are coming from, but..
Apple is the one that boasted to its consumers that this glass was special and the hardest out.
You can't mislead people. It usually comes back to haunt you.

I personally have no Beef with the glass. I'm careful with my things.
My only gripes are the Connectivity

Apple is right. The glass is harder but it's still glass. I've always felt that if you hit glass the right way it will break.

I wish Apples designs were more functional but they aren't. Just look at the back of the iPod touch. If you touch it it scratches.

I still love the design of the original iPhone. I loved the back and that thing could really take a beating.

You can blame Apple for the glass scratching, the reception, the qc process which seems nonexistent, but I don't feel like you can blame them when someone drops a product a couple feet on a hard service and it breaks.

The amount of ridiculous Gizmodo hating kids on this site is ridiculous. You make it sound like Gizmodo is the new Fox News or something. Get off your high horses. They still provide a great source of information that is actually updated on the weekend with any breaking news, not to mention they have a pretty large reaching arc of information.

How about everybody chills out and just stops calling Gizmodo names for something that happened in the past.

Here, something fun. I had my boss make a similar analogy to me a few days ago.

I'm sure all of you remember seeing the Lion King. If you haven't, you were never a child. Anyways, in that movie, the Baboon, Rafiki, smashes Simba over the head with his walking stick. Here is the dialogue that takes place after.

[Rafiki hits Simba on the head]
Simba: What was that for?
Rafiki: It doesn't matter, it's in the past.
Simba: Yeah, but it still hurts.
Rafiki: Yes, the past can hurt, but the way I see it, you either run from it, or learn from it.

So, just chill out. If Giz does this again? Maybe then you can crucify them and claim they are incredible douche bags. It's quite possible that Gawker may work on reforming that branch of their media. So just chill out, and let them move forward and see if they learn from it.

Why is everybody bashing the article for just being Giz?

They don't hate apple, they actually bummed them during the whole iPhone leak scandal.

And besides, everything in this thread rings true.

Being a certified watch nut I know what you say is true. It's also not easy to break or shatter unless it's smashed against another piece of sapphire or diamond.

I really feel Apple knew this phone would require a bumper for many users in order to function properly regardless of a person's phone gripping style. Regular cases have always been offered right away but not this time. Now we've got these rubber things that conveniently cures many issues with the phone for $29 more. It certainly makes me think.

Not true. Being a watch collector, and owning over 40 watches of varying quality and construction, including plastic, mineral glass, sapphire crystal, and some with Invicta's newer flame fusion crystal. Sapphire crystal is among the most scratch resistant, but it is also the EASIEST to shatter. Mineral glass is more shatter resistant but, but also more prone to scratching as is plastic. Don't believe me? That's fine, you only have to do the research, it's out there.

This article is spot on. Apple design is often times a joke.

For another example, take a look at the MBP. They make it run whisper quiet. Did they do that through incredible thermal engineering? Nope. They just turned the fans down and let the computer get so hot that you'll burn your balls off. Then they say it's not a laptop but a notebook and to not put it on your lap. Really? And let's not forget the razor sharp edges where your palms rest. Ergonomics be damned. Putting a chamfer or radius there would have made a world of difference for comfort.

For every thing that they get right, they get 3 other things wrong (often terribly wrong). Add the iPhone 4 to the list of form over function. Any monkey can design "cool" looking products. The trick is to make cool products that fit their intended use. A fragile *mobile* phone that loses it's connection is a failure in design and engineering. And wait till people start dropping the iP4 with the bumpers on. I don't think the bumpers are enough to protect the phone. But the fanboys will say "that's what you get for dropping a glass phone" when in reality it should be "why the hell did Apple make a phone out of glass?"
