Far cry 5 crashing in bootcamp on external drive

Hi I loaded windows 10 onto a usb external drive and connected to usb-c and I have been trying far cry 5 which plays ok for a while then it crashes back to the windows desktop. I have even modified the settings to see if it is a heat issue but this game should run ok, so wondering if anyone else have had this issue and can help solve this thx
