Here's a real world reason why I love the faster charging of the 6+ and 7+... when I was driving from work to pick up my Apple Watch the week of release from that store in LA that had them, running Waze and playing music at the same time meant that the battery in my 6+ wasn't being charged fast enough from my standard car charger. The battery was actually running down as I drove despite being connected. I swapped to a 2.4 amp charger (like the ones used for iPads) and that never happened again.

Agreed. The built-in charger in my 2015 Mazda 3 is only. 0.5A. I got a 2.1A-2.4A charger right away.

iPhone 8+ can charge up to 18w. None of the of the other previous models can do that.
...yeah.

The OP was claiming that the 7+ can fast charge just like the 8+ and I was pointing out that all phones since the iPhone 6 can charge at 12W, which is what his 7+ is doing when he charges it with a 29W wall brick.

Might also make people question why Apple continues to only ship a 5W wall charger in the box! :D

I think it still comes down to this. Why draw attention to the fact that they're shipping every phone they sell with an under-powered charger? I know they did it with the wireless capability (not actually coming with a wireless charger), but I can see how they see "that's different" from advertising that you can charge faster with a charger that they're not providing.

My testing in half an hour with the 29w charger

It charged 34% in 30 mins on my 7 plus
