I'm hoping some of you can give an opinion, as I'm wrestling with whether or not to buy the 29w charger and USB C cable for my 10.5" iPad Pro. I've added and removed the charger and cable from my Apple Store cart like a thousand times, and my local Target has them both too--I almost pulled the trigger on them last time I was there.

So the thing that has me on the fence is whether or not this is worth it for the 10.5" model. I've heard plenty of people complain that this accessory should have been included in the 12.9" setup, and I have seen the tests that show that the fast charger cuts the charging time in half for the 10.5" model, but I'm looking for people that have this setup. Do you find it worth it?

Sorry, can't answer that question, because I always forget to look at the charging times.

But I just saw the price of that cable. Does it at least support USB 3.0 data transfer speed?

I purchased just a €5.whatever USB-A to USB-C adapter on Amazon for charging my 10.5" with my MacBook's power adapter or the USB-C port on my USB-C Dock what is specified to have fast charging capability for iPads. Never experienced any problem with it.

Yes--from what I understand, it is supposed to support the fast data transfer too.

I'm just trying to decide if it happens often enough that I need to charge my iPad during the day. Most of the time I charge it at night while I'm sleeping, or if I've been using it a lot during the day, I'll plug it in right after work so I can use it again from 100% charge later that evening.

The completist in me wants to spend the extra money on the fast charging cable so that I can take advantage of all of the features the new iPad Pro offers. The practical side of me knows that I would hardly ever need my iPad to charge that fast, and I could save that $75 to $85 to use toward a shiny new HomePod later this year.

Will third party lightning to USB C cables be just as fast? I assume it’s just the adapter that provides fast charging, I just want to get a longer cable.

From what I've read, the third party stuff doesn't work. Has to be the Apple cables.

When getting a new Pro this year, I ended up grabbing the 29W adapter as well. Most of the time I don’t use it, but a few times per week I do run into a situation where I’m getting low on battery and the 29W (with the 12.9”) can get a near full charge within 2 hours. I feel like it’s a useful tool to have.

Also, just noticed MR posted about some deals on Amazon today. This Anker multiport charger looks tempting:

Not sure the details on the USB-C PD port. There is a long thread here somewhere with a few members testing out a bunch of chargers. And yeah, third party USB-C chargers definitely work.

That’s not true. There’s a whole thread for third party cables and usb c chargers. I have anker and it works.
I trust Anker, I have a lot of their products. I’ll probably get their adapter, but they don’t make a usb-c to lightning cable unfortunately. Maybe I’ll just get Apple’s official one.

I bit the bullet and got the 29w adapter at Target. Ordered the 2m USB-C to lightning cable online. I just think it would be cool to have the option to do this when needed. I still think the cables and bricks are a ripoff, but I mostly paid for everything with gift cards, so whatever. I'm glad the 10.5" Pro is capable of doing this and I want to be able to take advantage of it.
