Does the iPhone X support fast charging on the 2017 MacBook Pro with the USB-C to lightning cable? Or do I have to buy another power brick just for the fast charge? Still in the process of converting all my cables to USB-C.

Also, is it USB 3.0 enabled?

The MacBook Pro can supply a higher charging rate to Apple devices (similar to the iPad charger) but for true “fast charging” you need to also purchase a compatible 29W or higher USB-C charger from Apple.

Thanks for the response. Clearly understood. So if I get a separate power brick or use the MacBook's Power brick to charge the phone, what kind of wattage should I be expecting from fast charge?

I forget the exact wattage that fast charging provides, but if you use the compatible power brick (including the MacBook Pro 2016+) with USB C to lightning you should see the fast charging kick in.

29W is the maximum, at least to the point that the higher rated Apple charges don’t charge the phone much faster.

The interesting thing is the 12W iPad charger with the old USB style plug charges almost as fast, and you can use the cable that came with the iPhone.

9to5mac did a test of various chargers including the standard iPhone and iPad plugs:

When I have my 15'' Macbook Pro charging on the 87W charger, I only get a 500mA charging current via USB-C to Lightning port when charging iPhone 7 Plus.
