Hi everyone,

I have a 4 year old macbook white (a1181), which i recently tweaked with new ram and SSD harddrive. However, suddenly my browsing speed is unbelievably slow. When i download through transmission, app store, dropbox, the internet-speed is as expected (10/10 connection), but loading yahoo.com takes up to 25 seconds, and I am not able to download Chrome, simply because the website does not load. Also, in App Store, searching for apps takes aaages, but i download the apps at 1mb/s speed.

I've checked my activity monitor, but there is plenty of spare RAM and CPU power. It should be said though, that the fan has become quite audible, although not in a strange way.

What could be the causes? I've looked through tons of threads without finding an answer.

I appreciate all the help I can get, because im honestly bewildered. Quite frustrating upgrading my old Mac, and then suddenly this happens and pretty much makes my Mac not useable.

What operating system do you have installed? Safari on Snow Leopard is becoming more and more buggy as technology evolves. I'd stay away from Chrome, another buggy browser irrespective to OSX version. If you're on Snow Leopard, try Firefox or Opera.

Thank you so much for your response. I am on Lion now, but i experienced the same on Mavericks. (Had Mavericks, then wiped and reinstalled Lion, but no improvement).

Oddly enough, some websites sometimes work smoothly. Like MacRumors. There seem to be no consistency, besides performance gradually becoming worse the longer safari is open...

This is a problem with your DNS servers. You can either change this setting on your router or on the MacBook only.

Go to :apple: --> System Preferences --> Network --> Wi-Fi (Or currently used interface) --> Advanced --> DNS --> + Enter: 208.67.222.222 as your DNS server. Report back if it fixes it and we can set that for the router.

Sadly, it did not make a difference. Oh, and I am only supposed to set the IP for the DNS server, not touch the search domain, right?

Yes. It sounded like a DNS issue. So tell me, how is your network set up? Is the MacBook the only machine having issues?

I ended up doing a network diagnostics (Probably should have been the first move...) and now it seems to be working again.

I very much appreciate your help!

At a glance, I wouldn't recommend that. I get ~175 ms ping to that IP address so it's probably hosted in the US, and the round-trip from Germany probably isn't much better. A distant DNS server is not a good idea for performance testing.

Sorry. I am on my iPhone so it does not show OP's location on Tapatalk like it does on the regular site.
