Do you speak spanish? I'm not surprised they ignored you. The best places I found were the ones where making food was something that was done mostly for friends. You sort of have to interrupt them from their novelas and get their attention. Generally, the less they notice and the less they speak english, the better the food. Those were the days......This is what happens when you are too lazy to log the wife off he computer

There's a mexican place around here (some pretty far displaced mexicans :p) that serves authentic mexican food - not tex mex - that's really incredible. The only thing comparable between it and other 'mexican food' is the fact that it is spicy, but only some dishes.

Plus, they serve Jarritos....mmm SO YUM.

Sonic!!!!!! :D
Gotta love the greasy tater tots and the yummy frozen things! :D

I've never seen a sonic before, but I always see their ads on tv. After going to their website, the store locater turned up nothing within a 200 mile radius.

For a long time, Sonic advertised frequentley in St. Louis and there never were locations nearby, then a few years ago, Sonics started popping up all over the place. Maybe the same will happen near you.

If you live in a city where god has not yet graced his land and people with the delicious goodness that is White Castle, then I feel sorry for you.

People could say the same thing about In-and-Out over here near the west coast. :D

Aside from that one taqueria, I don't think I've met a burrito I don't like yet, I love walking around the Mission here in SF and sampling good-smelling things from all over. I tend to stay away from larger chains in general, not just because I want to support local businesses but also because there's often a lot more variety in them. That's not to say don't enjoy a big bucket from KFC every once in awhile (which I'm tempted to go up the street and get one as I type this) and the mention of Sonic above had me drooling for a bit since I used to go there all the time when I lived in the midwest and get something that was covered in chili and cheese. Its a wonder I gained almost zero weight throughout my youth.

I also remember this wonderful little burger joint that I would often get my aunt and uncle to take me there when I was visiting. It was in the middle of nowhere but it wa damn good. There was this old-style A&W place out there too that I liked, mostly because it hadn't loked like it changed in 30 years or so, they still had phones installed at the tables where you sat to order. I miss the root beer floats. :(
Oh and just before we moved out here to CA, my dad and my uncle I think went to this place (which I can't remember right now) that cooked a hamburger which was as big as a large pie and sliced up like one as well! I totally got stuffed on that before the move because I knew that I probably wouldn't be able to for a long while.

I couldn't stand living there again but gawddamn those burgers were good.

"In-n-Out"

"In-n-Out"

"Thats what a hamburger"

"All about"

Otherwise, a El Pollo Loco Pollo Bowl, no beans, small fries and a large Coke, also known as "the usual".

I hope so. Those slushies on tv look pretty good!

I pretty much avoid fast food, if I want food fast I'll make a sandwich.

Pizza Once every 2 weeks: Pizza n Pasta, sometimes Papa Johns (but they never have any good coupons)

Subway: Once every 2 months.

In-n-Out

Just a bit of In-n-Out info for you all. I live just 5 miles from the very original In-n-Out which opened in 1948. And now the 100+ stores are still owned by the same little lady who unfortunately has outlived her husband and both her sons. They make it a point to pay their employees a starting pay of about $2 more than the minimum wage. http://www.in-n-out.com/history.asp

One thing you might not know, they're a very socially conservative company. I knew someone that worked at an In-n-Out and mentioned that he was out drinking heavily at a party the previous night. They transfered him to a store 50 miles away in an effort to make him quit. They like their employees to be "good." If you check under their cups, you can find "John 3:16."

Sorry for the buzz kill. To answer your question, In-n-Out on the west coast and Steak-n-Shake in the mid-west for me. I love restaurants with hyphenated names. :D

Sonic drive -in is a midwest chain e.g. okla/tex area

There cherry-limeade slushie is excellent :D  :D

They're in Florida too... I like their drinks (like that cherry-limeade slushie), but their food is only a small step up from MacDonalds, which isn't saying much. For burgers, I'll go to Steak-n-Shake.

That's just one cup, the soda cup. The milkshake cups have a different verse as do the water cups. ;)

I remember when I was growing up, there was this little Sonic-esque drive-in called Frosttop. I remember they used to serve sundaes in these plastic glasses and the base for them snapped on the bottom almost like a lego piece. They had some pretty good food. I miss that place.

Sonics are starting to pop up here in Utah as well. First there was just one by my house and now they are building them as fast as they can. They do serve a pretty good breakfast sandwich.

The Sonic slushes do look pretty good but when I am in the mood for one, I usually just go to one of the many road side ice shacks that pop up during the summer.

I am craving so many different kinds of food now. I really must stop participating in this thread.

DAMN RIGHT! This place not far from my work has the BEST green-chili n cheese fries. I could eat like, eighteen plates of this stuff it's so good.

As for McDonald's... I would rather cut off my arm, never have sex again, and quit smoking before I'd ever eat that crap again... which basically means NEVER.

Though I DO like A&W every once in a while...

haha pub grub is the best, if your gonna sit down to a greasy plate of crap once and a while you might as well spend the extra $4 and make it worth while!

Pretty good food, they must batter their onion rings in vanilla milkshake though.

I just strapped on the feed bag at the local chinese buffet. They are in so much trouble if bird flu ever hits the US.
