After over twenty years with Windows, I made the switch to Mac. May I ask about file viewers. I want something more powerful that Preview. For years I used ACDSee products. Here’s what I’m hoping for:

1. Multiple instances so I can look at two or more photos at the same time. Xee does not seem to offer this.

2. The ability to swipe back and forth as the photos expand to fit the window size I’ve set. Is this something Macs can do?

3. Speed. I have a powerful machine, but a program such as Photoshop would be overkill.

Thanks for your help.

Toy Viewer is good and free via the MAS. Also Fragment is good MAS.

I made a Cocoa app like that a few years ago, with fast browsing between photos in a directory, zoom lock and quick toggles from fit-to-screen to actual size. I based the navigation and zooming on GQView for Linux. (Are you familiar with that application?). There just wasn't another app out there that offered the same straightforward way of viewing multiple images in a directory. Even quick look and preview don't provide a simple way of doing it.

Unfortunately the app doesn't work on Mavericks nor compile in the latest XCode. Something I should look into fixing.
