I have a desktop mac mini and a MacBook Pro I transfer video project files between machines. I have a thunderbolt cable, which is faster than wireless or lan. the thing is I want to enable FileVault for security reasons.

can I still connect the mac mini and MacBook with a thunderbolt cable or does file vault kill that?

What the best way to connect to file vault encrypted computers?

FileVault won't have any effect on transferring files if you are logged in to both machines. That is, you aren't using target disk mode.

Even if you want to use target disk mode, I believe you can still unlock the volume using Finder on the machine not in TDM, using the credentials from the machine that is encrypted.

So if I have two macs, turned on and connected with a thunderbolt cable, the macs will know to transfer the files over the thunderbolt cable and not the lan or wireless?

I thought I read somewhere that the thunderbolt cables were only good for when you were doing target mode.

Please re-read my post. I was referring to using Target Disk Mode with a TB cable and FileVault enabled.
