Has anyone tried the 61w or 87w chargers that Apple sells, to see if the Macbook charges noticeably faster? If the difference in time is negligible, I'll order another 29w charger, but if there's a good difference, I'll pick up one of the higher wattage ones.

It still draws only 29W from a higher power charger. That said, if you use a hub the higher power chargers can supply 29W to the Mac through the hub and still have power left over for the connected devices.

As KPOM says, still only 29W from the 87W charger, which I have as well as the 29W one.

To my surprise the 87W charger charges my MacBook at 20V 1.45A while the 29W charges at 15V 1.9A. I checked with Apple that this was OK.

I started a thread about using the 87W charger with the MacBook earlier this year;

29W was grandfathered into the USB-PD system. The 87W charger follows the new standard. The 29W charger follows Apple’s original design.

Interesting! did you see the last post in the thread I linked, by mOdest, saying that the 61W and 87W deviated from the USB-PD standard by not including 15V charging? I guess since Apple make Apple chargers for Apple laptops they can do what they want!
