Thank you guys! Now i have it more clear... I will not buy the 2.8, cause its a waste of money, will be hotter and the difference in speed its almost zero.

Difference in speed during day to day usage will be small, but I wouldn't call it a complete waste. It has a larger cache, which does help as well remember. Whether that's worth the extra premium Apple ask for is questionable though! I guess it depends on how hard you will be pushing the system and whether you have the disposable income.
Personally, I'm looking to wait a few months for Haswell, but I'm looking to max out the CPU as far as I possibly can to help with my rendering, considering I will be keeping the system for as long as possible.

My vote for 2.4. 2.7 is faster slightly with 2 MB more cache. Your uses are not super-intense, so the extra 300 MHz and little bit more cache should not impact you. Plus, it is cheaper and will get less hot.

The 2.8 has the extra 2MB cache.

The OP plans on doing photo editing, HD video editing, running virtual machine(s), and possibly *all* at the *same* time.

I think he'll probably want to go with the 2.7Ghz.

It will also help future-proof it if he wants to do the same tasks 1-2+ years down the road (or if he wants to keep the machine for 3-5 years).

Completely agree with this post.

The faster you go the more heat it generates, that's just how things are. Its down to the system to cool itself, and from what I have seen the cooling system is pretty good in the retina and able to cope just fine. Typically the CPU will have heat spikes, when rendering for example, rather then a constant high heat anyway.

Hi.

Just wanted to tell you, that i ended up with the Macbook Pro Retina 2.7ghz 16Gb Ram and 500 SSD. Ordered on April 8 received last friday april 19.

My Display is SAMSUNG (no IR :p ), also my SSD is a Samsung too.

No dead pixels, and everything seems perfect!

Temperature is around 46-50 Celsius, just surfing, listening music in itunes and using Windows 8 in parallels.

When i render an HD video in iMovie, temperature rise til 85-90

By the way, i purchased this laptop cooler, remove the 2 cheap fans inside, replaced them with 2 80mm Cooler Master fans, and my Retina Macbook seems much much cooler now : http://www.amazon.com/Macally-ECOFANPRO-Bamboo-Laptop-Stand/dp/B002IVWSR2

Im pretty happy, and so far i dont see anything wrong with my new 2013 rMBP 2.7ghz.

NOT too hot at all, or as hot as i thought it would be :p

Hi, maybe this is a dumb question, but i have to ask because i really dont know the answer.

Im tying to decide which 2013 Macbook Pro Retina to buy, the 2.4, 2.7 or 2.8Ghz

I live in Monterrey, Mx where the temperature´s average everyday is 90-100+ almost all year round.

I really want to buy the 2.8Ghz, and my question is: The faster the cpu, the higher the heat inside the macbook pro? i mean, if i choose the 2.4 or 2.7 will any of them run cooler than the 2.8?

Thx for your helps guys and greetings from Monterrey, Mexico.

Hola, wow Monterey, mas rapido mas caliente. 2.7 Ghz I doubt it would be cooler than the 2.8Ghz but 2.4Ghz seems like it would be a sweet spot.
