Faster processor -> noisier performance

I've been reading alot of posts and am in the same boat as a lot of people deciding which MBA to get. It seems like to me after reading up that the faster the processor, the more heat / noise the MBA produces... Am I correct in thinking that?

By noise, do you mean the fan cranking up?

Those faster chips might produce more heat causing the fans to take up more power when they spin, but I doubt that there is a significant difference in the fan speed. Also from reading around, the fans themselves are pretty quiet, minimizing the overall loudness of the machine.

I'd be surprised if no one has experienced it yet. I edited and rendered a 35 minute video through iMovie a few nights ago and about 5-10 minutes in the fan became very audible. Not enough to be any sort of dealbreaker, but enough that I thought "what's that noise? Where's it coming from? Woah is that the Air? Huh, I guess it is."

Then I placed the Air in a spot that would be conducive to better airflow in and out of the unit and went about my business.

I have a 13" 1.86/2GB version now but will be returning it and have ordered the 2.13/4GB version. I can only assume that the 2.13 CPU will likely trigger the fans earlier, but with how I plan to use the Air I'm not very concerned that it'll happen frequently.

*don't have a machine made by apple* I would like to know which air I should get though, the 2.13 or 1.86. It'll definitely be a 13". Fans make me happy for some odd reason. I love to hear a turbine, or engine or fan starting up -> I love aircraft engines 😀

I think the same is true on my i7 MBP. 95% of the time very quiet. Do taxing things, hear the fan.

HAHA. We have a 2-year old and still put a fan or other white noise on when he naps sometimes. I wonder if he'll have an affinity for turbines or aircraft engines when he gets older! 😀

But, to your dilemma, sounds like 2.13 is the one for you!
