This is the way apple always works. If they have three products in a line product A1 A2 and A3, priced at $100, $200, and $300, Apple will keep those products at those prices until a refresh. At the refresh, they will drop A1 and introduce A4, but keep the same price points. So, then you have A2, A3 and A4, each at 100, 200 and 300.
For whatever reason, apple is very tied to their product structure and pricing structure. i think they worry a lot about keeping value for their products. By not changing prices until a revision, no one ever feels like their product dropped in price after they bought it, b/c, the new product was after a revision. That is to say, the see that if they bought a laptop for 1299, the new 1299 laptop is better, they don't see that their 1299 laptop turned into the 1099 laptop.
