I missed the movie, but the book was, assuming certain quantum effects are indeed as speculated, quite believeable....

Sorry, but the 3d fax premise just reminds me too much of the Adventures of Superman TV episode, The Phony Alibi -- the one where Professor Pepperwinkle invents a machine to transport people by telephone wire, which crooks begin using to commit robberies and (gasp!) to send Lois and Jimmy to Alaska!

I'm in the same boat... except it was Trivial Pursuit. However, 5 years earlier my father had convinced me to put $1000 in Massey-Ferguson....
