Looking for a battery to give just one full charge to iPhone 12 Pro Max - but I wanted the fastest charge - and especially the fastest from over the 50% charged point, i.e topping off. Price not important. What specs should I be liking for? Thanks

Look for the word ”PD” on the portable charger. That’ll give you the fastest charge. I have an anker 26800 mah pd charger, see pic. it get you 50% charge in 30 depending on the starting state or charge. Mine is about a year old With a metal body. Very premium and heavy lol.

ohhh this one is even better. 30000 mah. FYI 27000 mah is the FAA limit To carry on a plane so take that into account.

OK - I get it that PD is what I want - thanks - But area all PDs the same. And I've read many places about the 50% in 30 minutes, but where I really want to have speed is from OVER 50% - I assume charging slows down from there , and if so are there any batteries that offer faster 9 (comparative) charging after the 50% full point.

Take a look at RavPower and Anker. Those are two of the best.
Yes - they do like like solid brand. Agreed! Still, I'm trying to find specific models of batteries that charge the iPhone 12 pro max the fastest, not only up to 50% - but more importantly the final 50% up-to full

That 30000mAh is a beast and RAVPower is a good brand. It has a $15 off coupon now so it's $65.

I use Aukey 20,000mAh powerbank.

I would say stick to a good brand. Aukey is also well known aside from a ravpower and anker.

It’s not the power bank that slows the charging past 50% it’s the phone software to protect the battery. Same with my electric cars, past 50% the charge rate slows down. At 90% it’s slow as a turtle. It’s all done to protect the lithium battery in phones, cars etc.

Here’s a charging test. See link below. Results Should be similar to iPhone 12. Tldr charging slows after 50% but the differences are in minutes. It’s after 70% is when the charge slows down and closer to 100% it takes it sweet time to reach full. Also 18w vs 30w and similarly 100w chargers are going to be nearly the same time to finish charging again because again it’s the software limiting the charge rate to protect the battery.

I have all sorts of charging wattage, in my cars, and multiple 100w , 32w and 18w chargers and all of them basically take the same charging time. You’d want the higher watts to charge bigger batteries faster.

IE I normally charge my 16in MacBook Pro overnight using the iPad 18w charger next to my tv. It’s convenient and time to charge doesn’t matter overnight. It reaches full in a few hours. But if I want a faster charge... I charge near the computer area and downstairs where I have the genuine apple 100w power bricks. It does the job 5x faster than the 18w.

I love usb-c it’s so convenient. It’s a must to buy an external power bank with usb-c because it will recharge 2-3hrs vs 10hrs-12hrs using regular usb-a charging (micro-usb inputs for example).

For the absolute fastest possible charging, look for a USB-C PD battery bank that can output at least 20w of power. Many top off at 18w. There are models that can output 30, 45, 60w that I've seen. Also gives you the option to top off your macbook and provides a bit of future-proofing.

Apparently so am I!

I'm a one-bag traveler and keep the power-bank attached to the side of my travel bag (GoRuck GR1 26L) with this:
