Again... people here still haven't realized that the lady probably did her typing one-handed since Swype was made for that. To beat it on iPhone with its current keyboard required two hands. Not as convenient imo.

Okay, okay! Let's see how fast she can do it with two hands then to make it 'fair'.

maybe change the name "macrumors" to "all kinds of crap iphone related"

some kid texting a message...frontpage news hey

i wasted 15 sec of my life watching it + 23 sec. typing this, and i'll never get the lost time back.
And to think no one forced you to do any of this. You wasted your own time. Sounds like a personal problem really.

P.S. - I did it with NO mistakes unlike the dude in the commercial who does and has to make correction. People who say that prediction isn't allowed never actually watched the commerical.

So how fast can you do it? Let's see your video.

Well, I only type on my Android phone casually, and I find Swype much easier to use then the "normal" touch-screen keyboard. All these extreme tests are pointless. In the end, it depends on the training of the persons in question. The person in the video is undoubtedly a pro in using the onscreen keyboard — I couldn't be so fast even with a computer keyboard (well, mainly because I would have to look up the spelling of all this words an non-english native speaker). But for "normal" folks, Swype is really great. I am sure that Apple will at one point include something like that in the iPhone.

1 finger is still 2 hands!

Looks like noone has realize ... done one-handed since that is how Swype is primarily used. ...

It's a smart phone, you can't hold the phone and SWIPE with 1 finger, using only one hand.

Maybe SWIPE with one thumb, but that's much more challenging. Maybe more challenging then typing with one thumb.

Two fingers: as fast as Ten

you must be the slowest typer in the world. How on earth can you type the same speed with two fingers as you do with ten?

The guy in this video is pushing 88 wpm with two fingers. Maybe he's faster with all ten, but maybe not.

Touch screen requires less physical movement overall.

try it with shapewritter should be a nano second faster but lets save that for when the record gets tough to beat.

P.S I am sure there are a bunch of Elementary to High school kids that will make the record a REAL record more so when they get mad and they are typing stuff that want to type

FYI, anyone practicing to break this record... she didn't actually know what the phrase was going to be ahead of time.

So don't just memorize the key strokes. You need to be fast, period. ^_^

Well I will say that the speed says nothing about iPhone vs Swype.
Reason for it is is more standard touch screen vs Swype. Android phones can and do have access to keyboards with auto correction on par with the iPhone that work effectually the same way.

Swype my understand of it is that it takes some practice to get it down. For short works it is better to tap it out but longer words you swype it out. Makes for an interesting combination.

The responses here are so typical of this site and snobby mac users. "If I-whatever" don't have it then it can't be good!". SWYPE is amazing pure and simple. Maybe the iPhone just doesn't have the processing power to do it? Or is it a licensed tech that Apple doesn't want on their device because it doesn't make them any money. I bet if the iPhone did have it, it would add an extra $50 to the price.

I have used "SWYPE" (Something similar) with my jailbroken first gen iPhone, before the first Android phone ever came out.

SWIPE is a new name for ShapeWriter

ShapeWriter, I still have it installed on my iPhones, & iPad. The tech was bought, and new owners took it off sale everywhere, and now SWIPE is in Android.

In theory, Apple could license it, or an App Dev could, but my gut tells me Google may have an exclusive for a period of time.

Slow...

Jeepers that is slow either way. Touch typing on a keyboard I'm two or three times faster without any advanced predictive help. This makes me really appreciate producing content on my notebook. The onscreen keyboards have a long ways to go. I am very glad that we can have a Bluetooth keyboard with the iPad.

This got me thinking: I don't have an android phone so I can't comment on it personally, but of all the "reviews" of the swype program I can find on youtube, most people held & swiped with their thumb, as their other hand held the camera. Didn't look very uncomfortable.

The funny thing is, Ive lost my ability to use non-iPhones normally. My friend passed me his Nokia, a fairly old one and asked me to text his friend something, because he was driving.

After a moment staring at the phone I just asked "..........how?"

You can't use predictive text. Swipe is not predictive. With swipe you must put your finger on every character.

Caps matter along with punctuation.
The message must be exact.

No you do not. I can swipe over t, h, and r, and the result will be "the". You simply have to swipe within a predetermined radius of the letter for it to pick out the result.

I don't really care about who the fastest is. I know that I haven't practiced on either, and I can type faster on Swype. End of discussion.

Don't call me a hater, it's the truth.
