I wouldn't want Apple to hold back just because they have a 12" PowerBook and don't want the iBooks to get to close in features to it. They are so close now already.

Apple hold back? Give me a break, it's the major reason their market share continues to erode.

don't think the 56k modem will leave just yet...there are too many people who (potentially) use it. Although faster infrastructures are being built, for many people it is still the standard, or still the cheapest, to use...Apple probably wouldn't go and sacrifice that potential function to accomodate a back-lit keyboard, as it is more of a frill (which has some function, and I like by the way)
I agree. Even though I use broadband at home, I use a 56k model sometimes, usually when I travel and I don't have access to broadband. It would be very inconvenient to many people not to have one.

SNIP
A) Hold off the entire line and release a new G4 revision?
B) Launch the 17 and 15inchers and keep the 12"G4 (probably speed-bump it)?
C) Launch the 17 and the 15inchers and discontinue (temporarily) the 12"?

B...put one of those better G4 chips in the 12...

I like the widescreen option, I see toshiba and sony mini laptop market as worth staying in for Apple, especially now they have the japanese store...

Just Give me the Illuminated Keyboard!!

I feel like the wait for an illuminated keyboard in the 12" is way over due! I Got my girlfriend to SWITCH and convienced her that the 12" PB is the best bet for its portability for school and such. However, I am sick of attaching the dumb flexable light to the USB port so I can see in the near dark. I like to work in bed and I like my home dimly lit with accent lighting so the Illumination of the keyboard is nessasary for me. I forsee a time in the future where my girl and I won't be together and I will have to get my own. I love the 12" It is the perfect size for taking everywhere, I hook it up to a cinema display, use the bluetooth mouse, and I can work on projects that I need more screen space at home. It is the perfect combination. But when the time comes for me to get my own, I don't want the larger costlier 15", I just want th illuminaation added to the 12"!!! Why didn't they do this from the beginning?? Has anyone heard of its likely introduction?? Where can I send a note to Apple to beg for this??
