I would have to say better battery life, all the other features are pointless if your battery is drained.

Signal more than anything. I never had huge issues with backups, crashing, or any of the common stuff, but the 3G reception was awful. It's worlds better for me since I've installed 2.1.

Too me for some reason it was the faster backups.

I could handle the dropped calls, the constant powering off and on, the application crashes and the slow application updates/installs.

But it really got under my skin looking at the snail moving backup progress line over a period of hours It would essentially make the iphone useless for hours.

i like everything about it but i LOVE the fact that my text ringers dont drop out for no reason

Ummmmm...ALL of the those are what we should have expected out of the box. The only reason we consider those "new features" is because we got such an unstable product.

Exactly. I'm thrilled that I finally have a phone that functions as advertised. I'm upset that it took Apple TWO FRAKIN' MONTHS to deliver.

Faster backups, by far. My phone has always been stable, good battery life...but the backups. Those were killing me. And they're still too long for my liking (3-5 minutes).

A close second is the faster application installs/updates.

Better reception is a myth, and Apple's own release note has said nothing about improved reception. I am sure in a week or so, this topic will be officially brought up by one of the popular blogs.

I just updated, so my vote's still out...
Faster backup -- I did not have issues with this before.
No lag (SMS and contact) -- This is immediately noted and appreciated.
Phone reliability (signal and dropped calls) -- Am hoping this is true
Better Battery life -- My battery life was not great, but not obnoxious. I wasn't clear if this includes the EDGE iPhone, but I'll be happy if it does.
No application crashes & No safari crashes -- I didn't have a lot, but I'm happy with any improvement in these areas.
Genius -- I have not played with this yet.

My other confounder, however, is that I have always jailbreaked my iPhone to have it unlocked. I started out with 1.1.4 JB/UL (ZiPhone) then went to 2.0.1 next (Pwnage). This time I updated directly from iTunes (since Pwnage unlocking survives a restore now). So this is also the first time I've had my iPhone have no Jailbreaking software on it (e.g. no Installer, Cydia, BSDSubsystem, etc). So that may also contribute to stability and/or speed.
