Oh, and a close second is Lincoln Logs. Not so much that they were really fun, but it's pretty much all there was to play with at my grandmother's house, and, well, they were at least kind of like Legos in that you could build stuff with them.

PONG

PONG

That counts as a toy, right? My generation was the first to grow up with home videogames...now my (7-year-old) students freak out when I mention that I still play them. "I've never heard of a grown-up who plays videogames!"

Edit: I was 7 when we got our pong machine.

Another vote for Lego. I got into a long discussion with a coworker about how favorite toys reflect personality types. Lego is going to select out for longer attention spans, creative minds, and problem solving abilities. Right?

That makes me wonder if there is something about Apple that attracts a specific personality types.

My all time favourite (and sadly still is) was Roy Falkner's Robot from Macross (Robotech was the American Version) that can be transformed to a plane.

Kinda embarrassing, but still have it in mint condition! :D

GI Joes were cool back then. Remeber, they were the only action figures that can bend and twist their arms! Also, one of them can change colours! Forgot the names...

Just like most of you it was Lego although I'd have to say my absolute favourite toy was my Donatello TMNT action figure.

Although I only ever really had one nice Lego set, otherwise it was just the general assorted type. Those spaceship sets and the like were pretty expensive for a single mother with 3 kids to support.

Is that the era in which they were the smaller hard plastic figures instead of the larger barbie doll esque figures? I had a whole pile of the former.

Beat that. ;)

My sister's ex boyfriend bought himself one of those in his mid 20's as it was something he always wanted as a kid but his parents couldn't afford.

It's a real beauty though!

Wow. I wouldn't have thought there would be so many Lego fans. I was obsessed with Lego bricks. It's all I ever wanted for Christmas or my birthday. Then I got an Apple IIe... but I still liked the bricks. I still get chills when I peruse the Lego isle at the toy store.

For some reason, I bought a bunch of the original Star Wars Lego sets and was going to decorate my office with them. Spent a ton of money. I never got around to opening any of them. They're still in the box. I checked on eBay recently and I can still get full price or better on them.

My favourite was Hugo - Man of a Thousand Faces

I'd spend hours coming up with theories as to why Hugo had to go into disguise. I really use to like changing his face and pretending he had multiple personalities to match them :p or that he was on a secret mission and had to go it in disguise.

Never heard of this. Kinda like the human version of Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head

I liked my Lego - I inherited a huge bin of it from my uncle who was 10 years older.

I also liked my Etch-a-Sketch, Twister and some of the old classic card games/dominoes etc. Was never a big doll fan despite being a girlie; people kept buying me Sindy dolls and dolls' house stuff which generally stayed in their box unless they had cool accessories; I like the Sindy pool because you could stick water in it and it had a light, I liked the Sindy cooker because it made noises when you put pans on it.

Lego. I had the big Pirate ship on display in my room until earlier this year, that I remodeled everything and had no room to place it.

Second place would be shared between G.I. Joe, Star Wars, and Robotech action figures.

Good call. One of my friends was lucky enough to get an AT-AT one Christmas – jammy swine!

I loved the old Star Wars toys – my personal favourite was my Boba Fett action figure. For some reason, he was neigh on impossible to get your hands on in these parts. I used to look out for him in every shop I went in, and I was so excited when I finally spotted him in Debenhams one weekend!

Ah, the memories... :p
