So, since my Primer thread went nowhere, I'd like to hear what everyone's favorite cult or indie movie is? Primer is my favorite recently, but there's a bunch of others. I'm always surprised to see Shawshank Redemption on "top 10 cult movie" lists... I wouldn't call that a cult film... but, I'm a fan of Reservoir Dogs, Dr. Strangelove, Monty Python and the Holy Grail (of course), Evil Dead, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Memento... I'm sure there's tons I'm missing. So what do you guys like that maybe many of us haven't' seen or heard of before?

My favorites would be:
Harold and Maude (of course)
Godzilla
Fight Club
Wet Hot American Summer (the funniest, most ridiculous movie I have ever seen)

EDIT: and How could I forget Monsturd? That's definitely as cult as it gets.

My one favorite, meaning the one I can watch day after day....

The Mack

It's tough picking my favorite cult movie.

I recently saw a flick called "Fukushû suruwa wareniari" (Vengeance is Mines) and I must say wow, if you get the chance check it out.

Fight Club is very possibly my favorite movie of all time. I didn't think to include it in a cult movie list because I thought it was quite popular, but maybe it's just because I've made everyone I know watch it...

Thanks for mentioning Wet Hot America Summer... hear dood things abotu it, promptly forgot about it, but now added to my Netflix queue.

I would have to say my favorite cult movies are Evil Dead and Army Of Darkness. They make me laugh every time.

Defiantly Wet Hot American Summer. My wife turned me on to that one.

A Clockwork Orange.

I watched that movie again the other week. It gets weirder every time.

MegaForce.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai

Beastmaster

Time Bandits

Blade Runner

Wait, what is counted as an Indie?

Wait, what is counted as an Indie?

That's a good question. Wikipedia defines a Cult film as "a film that has acquired a highly devoted but relatively small group of fans."

I would personally say an indie movie is a film financed by the people involved in creating, and not a studio. They are often later bought and released by a studio, however. Others might say an indie picture is one that is made by a small studio rather than one of the large Hollywood companies.

You're mixing cult and indie together. They're different, albeit similar, genres.
