UHF is a classic, perfect example of a great cult comedy.

I thought Clerks 2 was pretty good. It was no Clerks, it was a different kind of movie. If you compare it to something like American Pie rather to the original Clerks, it's pretty good stuff.

Speaking of Kevin Smith, Dogma is probably his most underrated movie, imo. Not sure of it qualifies as a cult film (definitely not indie), but good none-the-less.

I found Clerks 2 too commercial for my liking...but Dogma was so underrated.

Any Ed Wood

Famous but still 'cult' by some definitions:
Nearly all Kubrick films
Early Lucas pre SW.
Some Ridley Scott
The Pythons, actually that would include the likes of Brazil, Jaborwocky etc as well as the group efforts.
Nearly any Tarantino.

And the shorts. How can I not mention Bambi vs Godzilla?
 
Donnie Darko
The Dreamers
Paris Je T'Aime

Can't think of many others at the moment; still kind of unsure of the definition in fact.
 
Ok, now for a British perspective.

Cult films our students have watched for years (and that I enjoy) are:

Deliverance
Quadrophenia
Withnail & I

And a (then) Indie, Mean Streets.

Ooh, also The Warriors!
 
Pretty much every Christopher Guest movie (esp. Waiting for Guffman)

Before Sunrise

Grays Anatomy (NOT the TV show)

Abre los ojos

City of Lost Children and Delicattessen

Most Hal Hartley movies

Nadja

Company of Men

Mel Brooks - Young Frankenstein
K-Pax (I searched for this in the $5 box yesterday to replace the one my daughter lost)(found The Great Escape though)
