Never had the bottle on the left. In fact, never heard of it either. It it is limited and expensive, so it has to be good right? LOL

Well, I'm no expert on such spirit as emerge from your side Of The Pond, but I will admit that that bottle is so seductively put together that I would be sorely tempted by it.

And yes: Limited quantity and high price do seem to serve as a sort of rough guide to quality, do they not?

I'm getting low on The Macallan Double Cask and decided to pick up a new bottle today, one I've not had before. It's a 14 year old single malt scotch which has been aged in Caribbean rum casks. Hopefully I'll like it.

The Balvenie is an excellent whisky in it's own right - also interested in your findings of the Caribbean Cask.

It has a good nose and colour, a good first impression and then a strange hard to explain after taste that kind of spolis it all.

It's not terrible, but I noticed someone had picked up a Balvenie Carribean Cask earlier on this page and I'd take another bottle of that over this.

Odd. I went into the stores this week to get some bourbon and came out empty. Someone or some people had bought bottles that were recently highlighted in articles. What was left I'd already had in the past. Given the relative area, I'm going to blame Kram for my bourbon misfortune (hey, that rhymes).

LOL. You on the hunt for anything in particular? Where are you located again?

LA. I've been trying to get my hands on Booker's 25 and keep being turned away, even by the places I've bought thousands of dollars worth of liquor from. And that makes me sound like a wino. That said, this is like the artificial Booker's shortage from a few years ago based on rumors. Except this stuff is supposedly magical.

Haven't had much luck getting anything else that's been a hot ticket item. Out of sheer curiosity I ran some queries through Google and the big sites aimed at men, such as the likes of GQ, have been doing a best whiskeys and bourbons run all summer and fall every few weeks. I never thought anyone actually read that drivel.

I don't know who does bottling for who, but bourbon's been getting a huge surge in recent years so maybe I'm SOL or I need to start paying in advance for private reservations of crates. I'll check some places out in Newport and go from there.

I'm slightly annoyed at myself for not having picked up discounted Booker's at my nearest Costco about two months ago. OTOH, tons of Angel's Envy to be had. I guess if you like drinking bourbon that tastes like you've been sucking on an alcohol marinated vanilla bean pod for hours...

That is funny.

Anyway, I imagine that there must be a market for it - particularly aimed at those people who have recently become more affluent and haven't yet learned what they like and why they may like it, and thus, seem to feel the need for some guidance in such areas.

Can't really say that. Plenty of good bourbons under 50 GBP. There are ones that exceed 150 GBP in price, but they're very difficult to find and sold in limited numbers. Bourbon's only gotten a rise because our American media has been placing an emphasis on the product since 2008-2009. Around the same time the craft beer revolution started up.

And even then, the typical high end bourbon buyer is... well, older than 40 in most cases. Excusing my language here, but nearly all men's publications are written by idiots for twits. Their target audiences care more about getting plastered for as little as possible. Pocket lint even.
[doublepost=1541596791][/doublepost]And Zenny loves a good cask strength from time to time. Like a warm liquid blanket all over.

The high end whisky, whiskey, bourbon and cognac buyer tends to be over forty; two things tend to have happened by then. Usually, your job is better, which means that you have some disposable income, some of which you can afford to spend on a bit of self-indulgence (whiskies and so on), and secondly, you may have earned a few things, what you like, and what factors or features make some beverages better than others.

As for writers and readers of such publications, well, I am laughing reading your remarks. But not disagreeing wth you.

i don't think i've seen bookers 25 anywhere. maybe it's because i haven't looked for it specifically. i see the bookers 2018 chew all over the place. try to give cypress craft beer and liquor a shot. that's where i sourced the 2 bottles of weller 12 and the elmer t lee.

At the full drink that has not been consumed?

In my defense, it’s never “full”. I usually take at least one sip before I pass out. Haha. And unlike Z, unless it’s neat, I cannot consume a premixed drink the next day.
