No, FB-DIMMs are a technology that Intel has committed to support for years in server and workstation platforms. (Workstations will see both FB-DIMM and DDR2 support, depending on the 'class' of workstation. Ones that need faster random access, slower bulk data transfer, and less capacity, memory will use DDR2; ones that need more capacity, and higher bulk data transfer, but are okay with slower random access, will use FB-DIMMs.)

Servers will see FB-DIMMs become the ONLY memory supported very soon. All of Intel's upcoming server chipsets will support FB-DIMM only, both Xeon and Itanium. (I can't tell you how I know this, but if you search through some of my other posts on Intel chipsets and memory, you can probably guess how I know.)

If you could provide sources for these sites claiming that Intel is dropping FB-DIMM support, I would appreciate it, as I can't find ANY major tech sites that state this.
