Is that what you said when Bush enacted the Patriot Act?

Bush fought for and got that. Obama never said he supported it, rather he urged the tech sector to work it out for themselves or chance having another republican president who would not be so understanding of the bigger implementations at hand.

So educate yourself before making yourself look as uninformed and easily manipulated as you do.

Since you work in the administration can you get him to kill the PA before he leaves office? He's had almost 8 years to kill it, he's used it, and I think it's all worn out now.

You mean since i actually know what I'm talking about..

And no, he wasn't able to kill Bush and Cheney's Patriot Act, but unlike them, he was able to kill Bin Laden.

Lob them at me and I'll spike them in your face lol

What would you do if you were in FBI shoes? Cut them some slack. End to end encryption is all fun until your mother is blown to smithereens by a moon god worshipper

So it seems it was true, that yes, the FBI used the dead in San Bernandino as a ploy, and use them as an excuse to take away more of our rights.

I mean, they felt that surely no one could refuse when posed against terrorismism.

...again.

It worked with the Patriot Act after all.

Kudos to Tim Cook.

At this point how surprised are we really with the Government and Feds? ...

I have to ask, if and if a backdoor is truly created, just how many other countries governments would want to access it as well? Is there any plan that it would be only specific to U.S government?

I reckon almost every other country would want that then in the name of 'safety' and would probably bash Apple left and right perhaps even stop sales in their respective countries until they get what they want.

Dollars to donuts that Blackdoor would be passed around the U.N. with our nations "allies" like snacks at a gala or party

It would be nice if there were some magical way to suspend mathematics only for cases of already-proven criminal behaviour, but I don't think there is such a thing possible.

I'm not saying either party is innocent when it comes to invading our privacy and eroding our civil liberties, but please, please don't tell me Obama killed Bin Laden. He had about as much to do with killing Bin Laden as I did. Bin Laden's death was an action set in motion loooooong before Obama, and it was just happenstance he was in office when it came to fruition.

Pretty sure he had a lot more to do with it than you.
Anyway just replying to the fallacy that he is due all the blame and no credit, or vice versa.

Only 6 months after 9/11, Bush was already focused on his bogus war in Iraq.

The black guy in the White House can't be blamed for everything while getting credit for none.

The problem, as I see it, is too many people, mainly young, who have no problem with lack of privacy (witness FaceBook, Twitter, toilets, etc). The govts around the world know and rely on this to allow them to enable, bit by bit, 1984. And that's only the supposedly "free" nations.

I reckon this bill is useless and won't really prove anything the FBI can't already get from third party like how they accessed an outside source to crack the iPhone 5c...

Compelling companies by law to "weaken" their security by just handing it over only makes thing easier for the government.... Doesn't eliminate anything, since there will always be ways to crack open phones, just not the direct route the FBI would prefer to play.

Personally, as it stands currently... i'm happy with that... why compel companies

Confirming what we already knew before when Comey claimed it was just about this one iPhone.
They want full access across all mobile devices in realtime.
And zero journalists called him out on it. Meanwhile, he's still collecting checks from the taxpayers. Isn't that dandy?

Their smokescreen for a legal precedent is so threadbare it is laughable. The financial mafia and the spook agencies scratch each others back. Been that way for decades. All it takes is for "sources" to plant anti-Apple stories. If you don't it is happening then a famous P.T. Barnum phrase comes to mind.

How did the FBI not violate the DMCA by hiring a hacker?
The American people have decided that their government and military are above law. Heck, US military bombed hospitals and it's fine and dandy. But if you are caught with some pot in your pocket, heaven forbid.

The FBI is trying to use this same FUD to get the populace to hand over its information. If you want to give up your privacy to the government, by all means be my guest. But don't expect others to do the same. These situations that the FBI is using, like "your mother is blown to smithereens by a moon god worshipper" are not going to go away by getting rid of encryption. The bad guys will just find a way to communicate in a way that's beyond the reach of law enforcement.

FBI Director James Comey said on Wednesday there will be more U.S. government litigation over accessing electronic devices and said encryption is "essential tradecraft" of terrorist groups, such as Islamic State.

Comey indicated that the debate involving both legal and privacy issues over whether the federal government can compel tech companies to unlock personal devices in the interest of national security is far from over in a briefing with reporters at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

This certainly sounds like a concession that the speculation about the FBI's true purpose was correct.

So, for perfectly law-abiding citizens that simply dislike to be tracked by the government, we are going to need to bring a handheld gaming device to work and use flip-phones from now on...?

Right about the handheld gaming device. Playing cards are not known to give off useful RF for tracking. But, you will have to leave the flip phone powered off.

Until they ban flip phone and any devices cannot be tracked when being designed.

Government just too eager to know what everyone else is doing, yet they just selectively ignore that huge amount of data they already have, someone says.

Terrorists have won the war. We may have won the battle but we have lost the war already.
And the biggest terrorist is the government...
Just like the movie V for Vendetta......:(

Yes. The biggest terrorist is the GOVERNMENT. As always.
However government itself may never vanquish entirely. Just the group of people controlling government will change.
Human nature to acquire power and force.

And the fact that you believe what you wrote... is mind boggling. PS, Bush was an idiot, so is Obama.
