Exactly! Would people would rather have them SELL the data? These guys did everyone a favor. If they just went to AT&T with it first, AT&T would have never said a word about it, denied it and then go on as if nothing happened. GoatZe (Sorry, MacRumors doesn't let me spell it properly, being a "bad word" and all) acted in a sense like a whistle blower exposing the ridiculous manner in which AT&T had this system set up. Anyone in their right mind would have a more strict and encrypted method to verify someone's email address then they way these blow-hards did. Really AT&T? With all your billions, THIS is the method you came up with?

Anyone who is saying "I hope they throw the book at them" is missing the point. I will be thanking these guys, not condemning them.

Thanking them for exposing the data publicly, instead of acting appropriately, and within normal "white hat" protocol by quietly telling AT&T they found the breach? I'm not AT&T apologist. In fact, I believe them to be evil and incompetent (kind of like Chaos). But the scumbags at ****** had an opportunity to step up and do the right thing, and they chose to take the slimy way out. And I wouldn't be surprised one bit if they sold the list to Gawker.

Those of you defending their actions are missing the point. The fact that they uncovered it is not the issue in contention. It's what they did with it that is not cool. If they really were a "security" company, they wouldn't have exposed the data publicly. They and Gizmodo are nothing more than the technology version of a paparazzi and the National Enquirer. Likely even worse.

The arguments on this debate are silly. Any security scheme devised and operated by a human can't be decrypted by another human. I give you the Third Reich's "fail safe" Enigma .

E-mail from AT&T officially telling me my information was hacked
