The issue for me, I already paid for the internet and its associated costs via taxes and tax breaks. Like a road, already built and upgraded via my taxes. Now if you want to go the speed limit on the road, well that will be a premium. Now if you will accept a smaller payment you can go at half full speed. If you are only willing to pay the basic, then you walk, for something we already have paid good money for. If they want this to be a total business decision, refund ALL the taxes we have paid and let the internet stand on its own. Especially all the city taxes and tax breaks the businesses like Comcast have been so generously given. Start with a clean slate. Lets see how that business decision will workout.

I don’t know much about VPNs but I did read an article saying the very thing you just posted. That ISPs will eventually block VPNs. Not sure how they would be I guess that’s next.

It's so very easy to block, throttle, delay or otherwise mess with any sort of internet traffic.

Yes, there are some VPNs using technology that look like normal website traffic, but all the ISP has to do is to reject any traffic it doesn't like. e.g., this isn't a whitelisted site, block it.

Since when did has the government ever done something that makes sense, and moves to protect the rights of property owners instead of pandering to a popular majority? Weird...

Could be rephrased as follows:

“Since when did has the tRUMP ever done something that makes sense, and moves to protect the rights of property owners instead of pandering to a popular minority? Weird...

Remember at the polls:

234 Republicans (and 6 Democrats) voted AGAINST net neutrality.

177 Democrats (and 2 Republicans) voted FOR net neutrality.

If you think "both sides are the same" you haven't been paying attention to any political issues.

I'm a Trump supporter through and through, but this is ridiculous. I'm very much against this.

He announced that he was against Net Neutrality back in 2014 (via Twitter no less). This shouldn't be a surprise.

"Despite the significant backlash from tech companies and the public, it is widely expected that the FCC will vote in favor of the order next month. "

AKA:

The Republican Administration will ignore experts, people who work in the field, people making recommendations even against their best financial interests, AND the People themselves, to enact a 5th grader's misunderstanding of technology and economics.

This is Trump's America in a nutshell. Screw them smart liberals.

It's amazing- you would think that the idea of a level playing field where companies succeed on their merits would be a "republican" or "conservative" cause... and I cannot think of a better way to level the playing field for innovation that to force the utility companies of the internet to not stick their fingers in to everyone's traffic. but no- its all about lobbying money... when are we going to stop putting up with this crap??

This is called socializing risk and privatizing profits, and it's what American corporations currently specialize in. Think of the Wall Street bailout in 2008.

The Govt down listen to experts, they listen to the money from lobbyists as it fills their bank accounts. The tech companies should have outbribed the carriers.

The end result will be to make channels of communication open and affordable for the rich. Those who can afford unlimited everything will get it; those who can't will suffer through whatever they can afford.

I thought this was an interesting idea:

Pretty soon you'll start hearing people say "Does the average person really need full internet access? Most people just use Facebook and Fox News, so that's what we've put in our basic, economy package."

No we don't. We have services packages based on speed and in some places on data use, but not on actual content or websites (the data cap is neutral in regard to what websites use the data). But this is the situation in Portugal, a country with no net neutrality:

I do not ever want to see something like this in the U.S. In other words, what websites you can access depend on your plan and they are grouped into packages like cable TV. Additionally, a provider could theoretically slow down a competitor's streaming service and speed up their own. This is especially problematic in rural areas where they may only be one ISP to choose from.

I don’t understand how this is legal if Portugal is part of the EU and they are strongly in favor of net neutrality.

Telekom in Germany is currently offering the StreamOn option and they already got a warning that it does not follow the rules cuz the service is restricted to usage in Germany

When people who have been voting Republican lately can get over their hatred of gays, minorities, and immigrants enough to stop voting against the party that doesn't seem to want to interfere with everyone's lives. Look at Alabama as a perfect example. People in some cases will literally put up with ANYTHING in order to "win" and have their political party have a spot in office, and it's a sad thing to see. Reagan Republicans these aren't.

We already have that. What is your point? I still feel like Net Neutrality was fixing something not really broken. It was always "this could happen" or "that might happen."
It was happening. Have we already forgotten Verizon throttling Netflix?

Also, I should add that some of the major ISPs testified under oath that they intended on making “fast lanes” and “slow lanes”.

It should be clear by now that when people from this administration (from Trump on down) refer to something as a "failed approach", they are lying.
Not just this administration, but this has been the case EVERY administration in recent years on both sides.

Trump simply will not stop until he has reversed every policy administered by the Obama administration, regardless of the effect on the American people. It's a personal vendetta against Obama and Democrats that we're all suffering from. Hopefully in another 3 years we can get back on track to progress.

Here's some information on the situation in Portugal (and where the image was found):

Mexico has a similar situation, with one provider offering different "tiers" with different sets of websites.
