FCE 3.5 and Sony camcorder incompatible?

iMovie 6 and FCE 3.0 recognize my Sony DCR-HC42 camcorder on my iMac G4. On my MBP, on the other hand, iMovie 6 and FCE 3.5 simply don't see the camcorder.
Does anyone know of any incompatibility between MBP or FCE 3.5 and Sony camcorders?

The problem was with the Audio MIDI Setup. I had as Line-in as input and I had to change that to internal microphone.
