The mic I use to interview people for school stuff records one track only. When I was using Avid Media Composer I got around this by changing the audio tracks from the mic to dual mono so it would play through both speakers/headphones.

I'm using FCE now and am having the same problem. Can I convert the track to dual mono still?

Sure, just duplicate it into the other channel. If you have Soundtrack Pro, that might help but I think you should be able to do it FCE easily also.
