EDIT: Please ignore - I've found the solution (which is to switch from matrix to plain stereo in the import settings). Whoops.
I'm importing AVCHD clips into FCE4. No problem with the video side of the equation. But audio: what crap!
I was expecting FCE to "downgrade" the 5.1 audio the clips were recorded in to regular stereo, just as iMovie does. While iMovie does a perfectly good job, FCE drops the right channel about -6dB and makes it very noisy.
Is this a known problem? Anyone know how to fix it (other than using iMovie or a third-party app to perform importing duties)?
I'm new to FCE but would have thought there's nothing more to logging and transferring than using the Log & Transfer tool.
Andrew.
