EDIT: Please ignore - I've found the solution (which is to switch from matrix to plain stereo in the import settings). Whoops. 😱
I'm importing AVCHD clips into FCE4. No problem with the video side of the equation. But audio: what crap!
I was expecting FCE to "downgrade" the 5.1 audio the clips were recorded in to regular stereo, just as iMovie does. While iMovie does a perfectly good job, FCE drops the right channel about -6dB and makes it very noisy.
Is this a known problem? Anyone know how to fix it (other than using iMovie or a third-party app to perform importing duties)?
I'm new to FCE but would have thought there's nothing more to logging and transferring than using the Log & Transfer tool. 🙄
Andrew.
