Hi guys, I have a some videos shot on my iPhone 11 (HD 60fps) which I want to import into FCP 7. The videos are currently in my Photos app on the Mac. But I've tried the following methods to Import the videos into FCP 7 but none of them allow me to import. How can I do this?

* FCP / File / Import / Photos. But nothing shows there. No Videos or pictures.

* Opened Photos app and tried to drag and drop videos into FCP.

* From Photos app tried to drag and drop to desktop. Not even that worked.

Any help appreciated.

I regularly drag videos from the Photos app to my desktop... what happens when you try?
Hi mate, this is what i've done previously, but nothing happens now. I don't even get the green + symbol to let me know I can add the photos to my desk top.

Be certain they are not h265 videos.
Still, FCP7 is over 10 years old, not 64-bit, and I suspect may not understand things like variable frame rates.
A fireind who still uses CS6 on Mojave couldn't understand why his iPhone X wouldn't import. Now he runs them through Compressor first.

Thanks mate. Is there a way to ascertain on the iPhone if they are h265?

There are several controls in the Systems settings on the iPhone. But you should be able to do a "get info" on the clip and see what codec it's using.
I purchased an iPhone 8 a year ago. IIRC, the default was HEVC/265. I can only assume that if true, they would continue that on later models.

Thanks kohlson. Alas I've just checked the photos app on the phone but there isn't any option to check file type. Am I being silly???

In the Photos app, , select the file and Cmd+I - look for HEVC:

In Settings Camera Formats on the iPhone, High Efficiency means HEVC (and HEIC).

If you have the file all by itself, Cmd+I and look for HEVC in the Format field.

But, but, but: from a distance there are many possibilities why your import isn't working. Video has come a long way since FCP7. A long way. For example, from an online copy of the FCP7 manual:

(I don't see HD 60fps in there...)

Thanks again Kohlson. Your tip worked great and here's a screen shot of the details:

So it transpires it's an H.264 video, which should work within FCP7 and so I should be able to import it.

I managed to drag and drop 1 video onto the FCP timeline, but I keep getting dropped frames. I adjusted the RT but the issue persists.

Also, I still can't gain access to my Photos app via FCP: FCP / File / Import / Photos. But nothing shows there. No Videos or pictures.

Maybe look at jumping over to Adobe??? And a new computer later this year for certain.

I would have been surprised if that worked. FCP7, last developed over 10 years ago. Photos was not even a gleam in the eye of anyone at that time. iPhoto, maybe.

Your info image shows 60fps, which you also stated at the outset. I don't know that FCP7 supports that, which may be the cause of the frame dropping.

Hmmmmm 🤔 I'm sure I've imported via Photos app before. But I could be wrong as it's been a while.

I'll look into the Photos thing and the 60fps thing this weekend.

Thanks again for your help on this Kohlson and dwfaust.

Well would you believe it! I received an El Capitan update this morning which enable me to run my Compressor application again. This should hopefully resolve my issue of not being able to import pictures and videos to FCP :)
