FCP: audio levels controller...

One thing that always bugs me when I edit in FCP, is the audio leves. In the setup I use, having 3-4 video tracks, and perhaps 4-6 audio tracks, the audio-levels-bars are always too small to adjust smoothly. I find it almost impossible to do precise adjustment, unless I zoom in and expand that specific track - which is really too much of a showstopper, since it takes too long, when working with many tracks and doing lots of adjustments.

So, I was thinking, maybe it is possible to get some hardware audio-controller, cheap preferable, something to adjust audio levels with in a precis and easy way. Anyone here knows of such a gadget?

Or - any other tips tricks to do a smooth audio-level adjustment without changing the basic setup?

You could use the Audio Mixer in FCP ... giving each track its own fader.

For cheap MIDI control surfaces:
Behringer BCF2000 - Not terrible, but not nearly as nice as...

Pricier models:
Mackie Control Universal

Unless you plan to do a lot of mixing (which you wouldn't really be doing in FCP,) it's hard to justify another $1k for the Mackie.

Note, I have not tested any of these with FCP, but I don't see why there would be a problem.
