Hi, I'm new to using FCP and Mac's in general and would love some help.

To start out with I'm a newbi and surly have done this the hard way.

I shot some video with my vid cam that uses mini DV taps.

I captured the video from my camera using iMovie HD and exported them as quicklime files. (.mov)

When I take these files and try to import them into FCP I get this error message: File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.

I have FCP version 4.5 And I know, now, I can just capture the video form my camera into FCP but my fire wire cable is broken 🙁

Is there anything I can do to get these .mov files into FCP without having to convert them to .DV

Because it take my iMac 4-8 hours to convert them.

Any help would be grand thanks

If I didn't misunderstand your question, I think the quickest way to get the files from your imovie into FCP is to select all the clips you need on your imovie timeline, drag them to a folder of your choosing, then after the files are done copying just select those files from the folder and drop them into your final cut project.
hope that helps 🙂

If your Firewire cable is broken, how did you capture the footage in iMovie? Why not get a new Firewire cable?

.DV (DV Stream) is only used by iMovie - not by FCE or FCP.

Also, what type of iMac are you using?
