Hello,
I got myself a new mbp, the 17" one.
On the "before-mac" days, I had a win pc with premiere for my video editing needs.
Now I'd like to switch to something more apple-ish, and that would be final cut I guess.
I got myself a dmg of fcp 7, but when I try to install it, the installer says that I don't meet the requirements.

I found a trick for editing the minimum reqs. (it's in a plist file), but I don't know what reqs. aren't met in the first place.

Thanks in advance :)

Requirements to install all Final Cut Studio applications
Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of RAM (2GB of RAM recommended when working with compressed HD and uncompressed SD sources; 4GB of RAM recommended when working with uncompressed HD sources)

Display with 1280-by-800 resolution or higher

For rendering of 4K files and DPX: a graphics card with at least 512MB of VRAM
For 32-bit rendering: a graphics card with at least 256MB of VRAM
Three-button mouse for full functionality
DVD Studio Pro
For writing finished projects to disc: an Apple SuperDrive or other DVD recorder
For writing finished projects to a double-layer disc: a double-layer-compatible recorder and double-layer media
For transporting projects that contain copy-protection or dual-layer features to a replicator: a DLT drive, external drive, or Internet transfer of the project’s disk image

FCP7 works fine on my MBP, but it came on several DVDs.

Also know that we will give you no further information on how to install an illeagl copy fo FCP.

You got me wrong. I know the minimum reqs. And as I can see, all of them are met. So, my question could be rephrased as "why does the stupid installer say they reqs. aren't met, since they are?"

I know, but the other DVDs are just "content", right? I used the 1st one, the installation dvd.

Who said anything about illegal....?
I asked a question concerning the installation procedure, and I suppose the same installation procedure is followed independently of the installation media; DVD, DVD image (dmg), or w/ever.

What are the specs of your computer?

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs-17inch.html
the standard configuration.

2.8gh core duo
4gb ram
500gb hdd
geforce 9400m & 9600m gt w/ 512mb vram (and, yes, I'm running on the 9600m gt)
running snow leopard

here is what I mean:

FCS is coming on DVDs, there is no DMG on it. You can make a DMG though from them, but how often does one install FCP to fear wear on the DVDs?

PS: I don't really believe someone would shell out more than 3000USD to get a high-end Mac plus a high-end piece of software without prior checking that they are compatible.*

Or, perhaps I couldn't take home the DVDs, so I made an image.

Since you aren't really helping, and we aren't clearly talking about warez either, I would kindly request you not to bother me anymore with this.

Don't take this the wrong way; it's in a friendly and non-angry manner, but I currently have a problem and I'd like to focus on solving that.

Thanks in advance and a Happy New Year :))

Do you have the old version of quicktime 7.6 installed. FCP requires it. What about are you running in 32 or 64 bit mode?

I'm new to OS X (but not in *nix generally).
Is that "switchable"?

Assuming 32bit from this:
Code:
streamkids:~ alex$ uname -a
Darwin streamkids.local 10.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.2.0: Tue Nov 3 10:37:10 PST 2009; root:xnu-1486.2.11~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

Thanks for your help

I can understand that. I was just curious about the not knowing the specs issue (see my edit).

Have you installed anything else on that Mac or is it a virgin?

And have you looked on the Apple Support page for updates to the Pro line?

yeah it is but you should be fine, what about quicktime, snowleopard does not come with quicktime 7.6 installed by default only quicktime x.

Pretty much everything I need. Xcode is the only apple-stuff I think..

.. according to the installer.

Nope, you have to specifically install quicktime 7.6 off of apples website.

I downloaded it, but it says that I have already installed qtime X, so I have to run update.

I run update again (nothing updated). Although I cannot check the version with the following procedure:
Applications > Utilities > QuickTime Player > CMD+I (Get Info) > General > version
(an empty box opens upon cmd+i), I suppose it's the latest.

I'll have a look at this again later.
Any other idea?

Thanks to all and a Happy new Year.
