When editing material stored on any one of three external Lacie Hard Drives my FCP (5.1.4) runs really slowly, esp when I switch between play/stop etc. What's strange is that if I work on material on my MacBook pro's own HD it runs fine.

I'm using FW800 cables and none of the drives are close to being full.

Any suggestions?!

Do you have all three drives hooked up at the same time? If so, try just hooking one drive up and see how performance is.

A few things to try:

Turn Off Waveforms on the timeline.

Make sure hard drives are not over 80% full. This could affect performance.

Zap PRAM. Shutdown. Hit power button. Hold "Option, Cmd, P and R" let it chime 3 times. Then release to allow it to boot normally.

Flip the cable. Sounds weird but sometimes changing the ends affects the connection. This has worked in the past for weird connections.

Just a start.
