FCPX 10.4.10 Crashing with OS Mojave 10.14.6

I have an issue with my Macbook Pro (15-inch, 2016) & Final Cut Pro 10 (FCPX).

The problem first happened when I updated FCPX (10.4.10) and Catalina (10.15.7)

As soon as I ask the software to do any heavy lifting(e.g. exporting video files) it crashes(turns off) the entire machine. It does this constantly.

- I have tried deleting software preferences
- I have tried deleting FCPX and giving it a fresh install
- I have tried a fresh install of Catalina
- I have rolled the OS back to Mojave

The laptop has been brought to a repair shop and has been stress tested to see if there are any hardware issues - The laptop passed the stress test with ease.

The laptop has been running latest versions of FCPX for years with no issue.
 
Was FCPX a part of the stress test that the repair shop used?
If not, why not?
THAT'S what fails for you, and you say that it does that constantly.

Did that repair shop check your crash logs?
If not, why not?

Finally, did you try using an external drive, with your complete system (including FCPX) on that drive?
If you get a crash (or even if you don't try this on an external drive) immediately look at your crash logs. There should be a new addition to those regarding a recent crash, and should give a few details about what might be happening. If you don't understand it, you can post that crash log here, and someone may offer suggestions about what is happening.

In answer to your questions

The repair shop "don't specialise" in FCPX and didn't stress test with FCPX - even though I asked them to.

I brought it to two different repair shops - and they didn't check crash logs. (I'm in Dublin, maybe the standard of repair shops isn't very high)

I have always used FCPX with external drives (Sandisk extreme SSD's) and there has never been an issue.

Note - the screen has been replaced recently also

If you are now staying on Mojave - you should let it update fully.
If you go to System Preferences, Software Update, you will see 2 updates. Both are useful, and may help out.

You also might want to uninstall, then re-install dropbox - or at least check that your Dropbox app is up-to-date.

I'm curious... Do you use any other USB devices, such as an audio interface - in addition to your external storage?
