I have a 12TB dual external drive which is now getting full, plus I don't have any secure backup of my footage etc. Jumped in with both feet and bought 2 Drobo's a 5C, this will be off site back up at my home address, and a 5D3 which will be my main drive here which I edit off. Both stuffed with 5 6TB drives.

So I need to move all my projects video files, not the FCPX libraries, just the working files as I always leave them in place rather than import them into a FCPX library. Is the only real solution is to migrate the files across, open FCPX up and and let it search for the missing file per library? Or is there a better way to do it?

(1) Copy media files including folder tree to new drive. Make sure the relative location from the root is exactly the same as the old drive.
(2) Rename new drive volume the same as old volume. Note: macOS will allow two drives with the same name but it's easy to get confused. It's best to first rename the old one _old, etc, then name the new one the old one's name. You do this with CMD+I (Get Info) on each drive.
(3) When you load your previous libraries into FCPX it should immediately use the media files without relinking. The actual location of the library itself should not matter.

If that doesn't work you will have to relink, once per library.

Thanks for that, worked a treat.
