Hopefully this wasn't brought up in the verizon pre order thread that is now 500 pages long, have not seen this addressed there but....

It was suggested that those who have to work Friday and cannot be home have fedex hold your iPhone at one of their local warehouses. First I saw I did not have the option on the website, then I called and automated voice said that this package isn't eligible for fedex to hold it. So I went into a fedex and the lady told me that it looks like whoever the sender is :)apple:) instructed fedex to not hold my package. She said that fedex would try 3 times to deliver the package and then it would be sent back to the sender. So looks like my only option is to be home for Friday. Lucky for me my boss is cool as hell and wont care as long as I get my stuff done. Anyone else try to have fedex or even ups hold their iPhone for pick up?

I posted a thread several days ago about how people can pick up their iPhone instead of having it delivered. I'm not going to say the OP's sources are incorrect. But, I had the iPhone 4 and the 4S held AT THE HUB when I requested it.

I do not believe a sender can request to FedEx or UPS not to hold the package. I live less than 10 minutes from both a FedEx and UPS and I have them hold my packages all the time - literally. They never - ever - have a problem.

Make sure you are calling the HUB and not a store. There is a huge difference. I cannot see either companies changing their policy. Also, I have (a few times) go into the HUB before they close the night before a package is arriving and ask them to hold it for me. I tell them I will be back the following morning at 8am. Again, I have never had an issue.

Hopefully, they don't change this way of business because I love it. It allows for people who have busy lives to have options.

Yes they will......

They both will

FedEx has a free service called "hold for pickup" you can select that on the tracking page and have your box delivered to the closest FedEx office store to your house, work, or wherever. I've used this plenty of times and never had a package not eligible for it.

UPS has a paid service called My UPS, you can pay $40 a year or $5 per package and have it delivered to any UPS store near your house, work, or wherever. I've used this a handful of times and never had a package not eligible for it.

There are your choices. No they wont hold it at the hub, but using the services above you can pick up it either at a FedEx office or UPS Store.

Do the poor folks a favor on the CS team and stop calling and bugging them, all this can be done with a few keystrokes and half a brain cell.

Edit: @Hankster the shipper can state that they will not allow either of these services on a package, its up to the shipper not the recipient or the courier. It's technically the shippers property until its tendered to you.

They require one deliver attempt -- always have unless shipper waives, but Apple rarely will. HOWEVER, if you follow the tracking though the day, as soon as it's noted online that a delivery attempt has occured you can THEN call up FedEx or UPS and request to p/u at local station. I know FedEx allows same day p/u as long as the driver arrives back at the station at 9pm. I believe same is true for UPS. Also FedEx is open Sat AM as well.

I was also told the same thing this morning when I called. Mine is coming Fedex. On my way home today, I stopped in at the Fedex office where I would pick it up. The woman looked it up in the system but since it has not been scanned yet, she couldn't tell much. Only could say it was coming Express but did not know if it was priority which would require delivery by 10:30. She took my name, number and tracking # and said she'd check it tomorrow and let me know. I told her that the 800 # person said ATT had said it could not be held but she thought that didn't make sense. I was also told by the person this morning that signature is not required, at least thru Fedex. I am trying to get approval to work from home or take a vac day but my boss is on vac til tomorrow so won't know until then.

You can have UPS hold it at the center for free to pick up.

The services I mentioned above your post do not require a delivery attempt.

FedEx can not do anything with regards to your shipment until tomorrow. You will be able to click "Hold for Pickup" under "Shipment Options" in the tracking page tomorrow.

Once again, that option does not show up on my delivery page. I called the fedex corporate # and said the package was not eligible, I talked to a lady and had her look it up and said that fedex would not hold it. Maybe im in a high crime area lol.

I called 4 times. Each rep told me they had I send it out for delivery once before I can pick it up.

That is your problem, you are calling level 1 people who may or may not know wtf. It's much easier to read and find the answers yourself at ups.com. Your answer was right on UPS's website.

Well, I hope Apple didn't change its stance. I have packages held so often I think both HUBs know my face by now. I've never been told "no". When the 4S came out I stopped by the UPS HUB Thursday night and told me my package was arriving that night. I told her I would be back Friday morning at 8am to pick it up and to please hold it for me instead of placing it on the truck.

That Friday at 8am I walked in and picked up my 4S. While I can see certain companies requiring a delivery, perhaps certain HUBS don't really follow it. If a person is willing to come and pick it up...it helps them :)

Don't call them. I'm guessing you're calling the 1800 number. Call the HUB or better yet stop by. The personnel there are way more helpful. The people on the phone are simply following what they are told to do. Plus, their system may not allow it. But, the folks at the HUB...they're more accommodating.
I plan on doing the same thing for the iPhone 5!

Unless Apple the shipper has told UPS/FedEx that it doesn't allow those services. Its at the discretion of the shipper to allow those services, if Apple said it must go to their address there isn't anything we or the courier can do about it.

Actually, I've had my choice or a very long time and I don't have the option to do so for this delivery. All of the reps tell me that there's an agreement with apple to not allow delivery changes.

It is much easier if you check your facts before saying something is possible when it actually may not be. ;)

Unless they decided to change from what they allowed for the iPad 3, I doubt it has changed.

My UPS hub is a bit far from my house and my work, I've been there a few times though. Hopefully Apple doesn't place a hold restriction on it, but I wouldn't put it past them to do it.

I lucked out that I have Friday off since I'm doing maintenance on Saturday.

Ok believe the people who are just trying to get you off the phone so they can go to the next shchmuck in the phone queue or believe what it says online. I don't really care, I just know that me and several other people in this thread are able to pick up our packages directly at the UPS hub (not the ups store). I have talked with that hub and I can pick up my package tomorrow night.

I didn't think about calling the hub. That would have been a nice suggestion instead of being a jerk.

Cheers. :)

yeah i havent called the local hub to hold (its not their yet) but per fedex and a verizon employee

verizon has requested 1 attempt before being held. So its not fedex, not apple, its verizons doing.

and yes this has been discussed several times on the bagillion pages of the verizon thread, i dont blame you for starting your own. you cant discuss anything on that thread because people find the urge to say hay mines in the location now, or ask if anyone knows if their backordered date will be pushed up
