I love the iMac "look" but am I better off buying a monitor and going Mac mini?

Uses are light... Email, web, ms office suite

What about 25-30 inch monitors for it? Can I use any brand?

    Thanks guys

What you do can be done reasonably well on a 4 year old computer. There's no reason to load up anything for email, web surfing, and microsoft office. You should get the base model. It's way more than you really need.

Yes, I do all of that on a 2003 dell!!

Just figured I want Mac os

So even the base mini is ok?

What about if I want to use it for media sharing ?

You can share media with a 3 year old mac mini, so yes, again, the base model is more than you need.

base model would be perfectly fine. as much as i like the look of the imacs, i really dont like the idea of an all in one because i'd dread the day i have a perfectly good 27" display and a computer i want to upgrade. plus the mini is more user upgradable

Any brand monitor is fine. The mini comes with two ways to connect, you can either use an HDMI cable or it has a Thunderbolt port, which is also compatible with Mini DisplayPort monitors. And you can always use an adapter to convert either output to DVI (or VGA), or a Mini DisplayPort adapter to HDMI. The mini can run two monitors at the same time.

It does come with an HDMI to DVI adapter.

Monoprice.com has good quality adapters at good prices.
