Following a number of leaks last year that saw the company reveal the NFC-equipped logic board from the iPhone 6 and even build a booting device from parts in the weeks before the device's official debut, Feld & Volk moved quickly to launch its own versions of the device. The company specializes in modifying iPhones for the luxury market by replacing the standard rear shells with new ones made from other high-end materials, frequently including touches such as gold plating and lighted Apple logos.

Feld & Volk's first iPhone 6 offering was its Wood collection, priced at $3900, but the company is now moving forward with a number of new collections to be shown starting later this week at the Baselworld watch and jewelry expo in Switzerland.

Among the new materials being shown by Feld & Volk are carbon and titanium, with a new model pairing a carbon rear panel with a titanium frame and a glowing blue Apple logo. The iPhone 6 Carbon is already being featured by French retailer Colette, which notably was the site of the Apple Watch's first public appearance last September.

Other new collections from Feld & Volk will include one with alligator leather and another featuring a sapphire back with a titanium frame, and Feld & Volk is also teasing upcoming announcements involving illumination to build upon the company's glowing Apple logo feature.

While there has long been a market for modified luxury versions of Apple's products, the segment is seeing increased attention with the upcoming launch of the Apple Watch, with Apple itself selling 18K gold versions of the device priced at $10,000-$17,000. Feld & Volk and other similar companies are no doubt looking to capitalize on this move by Apple, and Baselworld is likely to be the site of a number of such announcements. Feld & Volk will be making additional announcements at the expo and will be providing updates on its site and Facebook page.

The first one looks dirty. The second one just looks like it's how people today thought that people from 1960 though today would look.

Edit: Nevermind regarding the first one looking dirty. Just a weird angle. If you go to their home page you'll see that it's actually an assault on your eyes.

And there's your proof that there is a market for crazy expensive versions of affordable products.

I would never buy one but I do like the look of the wood. Without the silly gold plating of course.

Looked interesting until I saw the prices. I'll just keep the sexy aluminium !!

Do these guys have any rights to design and sell iPhone cases with an Apple logo - even more, a glowing Apple logo? This has a strong smell of cease-and-desist... doesn't it?

but, but -- who would buy an expensive, high-end CE device when it will be rendered obsolete in a number of years!

but, but -- the internals of this device must be upgradable, right?

I'd like one made of bald eagle feathers.

I like the one made of kitten fur.

yeah it's def interesting. seems like they've put in quite the craftsmanship.

It's a bit like dressing up your phone.

Cool, I hadn't heard of this company before. I'm not in the market for such expensive devices, but I'd definitely prefer something like this paired with a steel Apple Watch than an Edition watch for $10k+

Whatever happened to Liquid Metal?

I believe they still make the sim tray and I don't doubt that some of the alloys Apple is using on newer devices are somehow related to LQMT, but it's not reflected in their stock price and I don't think Apple is buying those alloys directly. I'm long in their shares, hoping for something more between them since Apple is using various alloys in their watch for strength and shine, but also playing a long-term investment game since they're kind of floating right now.

I just wanted to add something so pithy and funny that I clicked the post button prematurely. Wait - okay, these are for the select few that will buy the $17,000.00 Apple watch.

I want one made with the embroidered whiskers of Siberian tigers, bonobo ape fur and inlaid ivory from Asian Elephants... Bet that would break the bank, 500K-1M, and shatter good taste too.

Since you aren't the target for this, or the watch, it is kind of non sequitur.

Those that would buy the phone, are prime demo for the watch and probably will own that one too.

Myself, I could buy the watch, no problem, but would probably prefer putting that money on a catamaran instead.

What argument do you have that they wouldn't be allowed to do this? There is likely a case that they cannot modify say Samsung phones to have an Apple logo, glowing or not, but the owner of the phone already has an Apple logo.

This is proof that people will spend all kinds of money on bling status. And that is why the 10k Apple watch will sell.

IP law doesn't work like this, I'm afraid...:)

Just looking at all the custom designs down their Facebook page, these guys have quite a broad range of designs, are clearly very technically skilled in many different disciplines, and are obviously very passionate and creative people. Quite impressive.

Of course none of it compares to the grandeur of the accomplishments of half the people in this thread making disparaging remarks, I'm sure.
