You are correct. I read the topic involving the the specs and pricing of the monitor and assumed it to be released. However, there was no mention of its release.

Yeah, thats what we are all waiting for. Release day so once it hits the shelves we should get other variants which overall is good for us.
Unless Apple fixes their **** during wwdc or so then I don't think anyone will want their overpriced junk for double the price. 🙂

I bet it's to do with litigation. No way Apple will sit idly by while a competitor comes in with something better and cheaper.

Not sure what Apple can litigate since the only thing about the Studio Display Apple could copyright is the actual design and functionality like Center Stage, neither of which the S9 would infringe on. After all, Apple did not sue Samsung for the M80B.
Further research shows the panel is most-likely sourced from BOE (they announced a new 5K panel in December 2022) so could just be production delays.

I have been waiting for final launch details of the M80C or S9 as I would like a second 27" display to use in two ways...
Firstly as a monitor for my work laptop when working at home.
Secondly as a second monitor for my MAC Studio.
That is of course assuming they support VESA mounting.
Saw the announcement and liked what they showed, but have been amused by lack of any further details.
I am trying to be strong and hold off buting a second Studio display.😂

Not to be a party pooper but honestly - if you already have a studio display and you want another 27" then you should buy studio display as the second screen. It will complete the look and will be consistent with everything.
Personally, I would never buy Studio Display and then another brand if another 27" is needed. So either all in or all in elsewhere. Mix and match with same size is not a good idea in my book.

Your situation mirrors so many others who WFH... not supporting multiple inputs is a huge usability strike against the ASD. The upcoming Samsung Viewfinity S9, the Kuycon G27X, a 5K iMac with the display conversion board, or the new 6K Dell - any of those would save a lot of hassle with swapping cables.

I agree with you, and the OCD part of me is definitely on board with that.
But the realist part of me is happy to consider all options before buying, I just need to see all the final details and costs.
At the moment my 2nd display is a 24" LG display, which is fine and looks ok so no need for me to rush into a decision.
(I had the LG display before I got my Mac Studio and Studio display.)

I certainly think the initial infio on the S9 or even M80C look good, just need to see final relae details and costs before I decide. Will look at other options but until then the LG display does its job ok.

I do prefer glossy displays, but I'd be able to cope with a decent, high-quality matte coating such as you see on some high-end PC laptops these days (if the S9 is priced well enough).
I worry about it when it comes to Samsung, however. I've recently purchased a 300-something euro Samsung LS27A600UUUXEN (wonderful model name), a 1440p 27" monitor that is fine in every other aspect other than the absolutely shocking matte coating. It's very grainy and creates this really distracting "rainbow fog" effect over solid bright-coloured backgrounds. It's so bad it had me trying to peel off some kind of protective film that wasn't really there.
I expect that they'd use something less atrocious over a 5k panel, but... Will they? 😕

I’d expect the coating on a larger margin top of the line monitor to be superior to an entry level monitor.
I remain surprised that Samsung, a company seemingly addicted to oversaturating colours, continues to ship matte displays instead of gloss. Particularly in its more entertainment focused models.
A 4K Samsung with a horrible matte finish is literally the display that set me on the upgrade path too. 🤦♂️
The S9 sounds great on paper, but that prior experience guarantees that I wouldn't buy one before the reviews come out.

While I'd also expect the same, I also own a much cheaper Philips 24" 1080p 144hz VA panel that has a perfectly acceptable matte finish on it. It cost me about 140 euro four years ago, and its anti-glare coating creates no fog/colour aberration at all. Go figure...

"June 2023" from Samsung is a great sign.
We will have the 6K Dell, the 5K Samsung, and a status from Apple* (WWDC) all landing within about a month of each other.
* (Either we get the much-rumored Studio Display update, a price cut on the Studio Display, or... nothing. But either way, we will find out in a few days.)

As much as I would also like this to be a more affordable 27" 5K monitor in the $800-$900 that you specified earlier, I just can't see that happening with all of the features the Samsung ViewFinity S9 has. It's clearly better than the LG Ultrafine (other than perhaps the matte finish) and that's still retailing for around $1,000 -$1,200.
But who knows? Maybe Samsung will surprise as after all with a lower than expected price. We'll just have to continue to wait and see. I still think they will try to price it below the $1,599 starting price for the ASD and should still offer good value, especially if one was considering the ASD with a matte finish and height-adjustable stand.
I think $999 would be max I would be willing to pay. At some point, a discount is not worth it.
Also, I don't think its much better than LG. They are all very similar.
